Description:
The second generation cephalosporins is characterized by persistent activity against gram-positive cocci, as well as a significantly expanded spectrum of action due to impact on gram-negative microorganisms. Ceforoxime is the most important representative of the second generation cephalosporins. It is widely used to treat moderate and some severe infections in adults and children (eg, community-acquired pneumonia, ENT infections, intraabdominal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), urinary tract infections, and infections of skin, soft tissues. Cefuroxime is the agent of choice for antibiotic prophylaxis in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology.
