Description:

The glycopeptide antibiotic Orthocis has bactericidal activity against aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria. Orthocid is similar to vancomycin, but has an exceptionally long half-life, allowing once-daily intramuscular or intravenous administration. The drug is equally efficacious against methicillin-resistant and -susceptible staphylococci. Adverse effects with Orthocid are generally limited to local effects or mild-to-moderate hypersensitivity reactions. Orthocid, administered orally, is effective in treatment of pseudomembranous colitis and staphylococcal enterocolitis.
